Darjeeling

Some of the finest blend of aromatic tea is made in Darjeeling. Ever wonder how two leaves and a bud make way from a tea bush to a tea cup? Here is a great way of knowing how its done and at the same time enjoy a relaxing lap of nature and experience a planters’ way of life.

Suggested Itinerary:-

DAY 1: Delhi/ Kolkata- Bagdogra– Darjeeling (Tea Estate). Arrive at Bagdogra airport and you will be driven to the tea estate in Darjeeling. Driving time varies according to the distance of the tea estate you will opt for. On arrival you will be served a hot cup of Darjeeling tea and check in to your rooms, unwind, relax and have a leisurely evening followed by dinner and overnight stay.

DAY 2: Tea Estate. After breakfast, you will be escorted by the manager of the estate on a tea factory and tea field tour where you will get to learn the different processes of tea making followed by tea tasting at the end. After lunch, take a walk through a local village. Leisurely evening followed by dinner and overnight stay.

DAY 3: Tea Estate- Darjeeling town- Tea Estate. Today after breakfast, you will be driven to Darjeeling town, Take a ride on the famous Darjeeling Toy Train (now a World Heritage Site) from Darjeeling town through picturesque Batasia Loop and then to the neighboring town of Ghoom. Ghoom is home to the famous Yiga Choling Gompa (monastery) which has wonderful old murals and is home to monks of the yellow-hat sect. You will be taken to visit the Zoological Park which conserves endangered Himalayan species and is also known to be the only breeding center of snow leopards in the world, the Himalayan Mountaineering museum displays old equipment including that used on the historic Tenzing-Hillary climb and traces the history of attempted climbs from the year 1857. The Tibetan Self Help Refugee Center comprises a home for the aged, school, orphanage, clinic, gompa and craft workshops that produce carpets, wood carvings, leatherwork and woolen items. Wander through the Mall, shop for local crafts and antiques along the way. Return to the tea garden in the evening. Overnight stay.

DAY 4: Tea Estate. After a leisurely breakfast, take a walk through the tea fields, village and forest and enjoy a scrumptious picnic lunch by the river side and return to the bungalow in the evening for dinner. Overnight stay.

DAY 5: Darjeeling- Kalimpong. Today after breakfast, drive to Kalimpong, a quaint sleepy little town located on a ridge. Have lunch after arrival and take a stroll through the town. Evening at leisure. Overnight stay.

DAY 6: Kalimpong. Today after breakfast, you will leave for sightseeing. Escorted by a friendly guide, you will come across the local bazaar popularly known as ‘haat bazaar’, a bustling market displaying all kinds of local produce and various other things. Visit the Dr. Graham’s Home, a working orphanage and school that holds a lot of history. A Scottish missionary built in 1900 to educate the children of tea estate workers, and now has more than 1300 students. There’s a small museum that commemorates the founder. Visit the Orchid Nursery that showcases varieties of orchids and various other floras. Return to hotel in the evening. Overnight stay.

DAY 7: Kalimpong- Bagdogra. After breakfast, drive to Bagdogra Airport for your return journey.
